First off, Humbug is a platformer puzzle game. I won't deny it, I'm a big fan of platformer puzzle games! Especially the ones that banks on stories, characters, and sequels. Humbug series is one of those games who needs some love, an overlooked genius! Shout out to the awesome PixelContinuous for creating such a mind dumbing game. Since Humbug is a growing series, I'd like to compare strengths and weaknesses of each. I'll try not to spoil the game as much as I can in this review.

Very well said Mr. Ziggy Fraud, very well said.

Humbug stars Ziggy Fraud, a cunning burglar! Ziggy has his eyes on this castle's priced possession. Now, he just needs to infiltrate the castle and take the treasure. Just like any other platformer, controls are simple. You go left and right using the arrow keys, there's the up arrow for jump... and then WHOA!

Wha- what the... I don't even...

I thought that far off castle in the background was for aesthetic purpose only. Yeah, the game is crazy like that. A lot of elements in this game are very misleading. Every design that you thought is faulty or is a bug actually has something to do to finish the game!

Amma walk on your pop-up UI, u mad?

The whole new concept of crazy was new to me, that I'll never finish the game without a walkthrough! I was caught off guard on how crazily out of the box this game can get! Although, people using walkthroughs to finish your game is kind of a bad news... kind of. But overall, the game made me want more after finishing it. “OMG THIS IS A WHOLE NEW LEVEL OF GENIUS”, I thought out loud. And then came the sequel, which they called, Humbugger

What's better than humbug? Humbugger, of course!

This time you play as Ziggy's trusty steed chicken! But unlike Ziggy, chicken do not defy logic and physics. No more of that crazy fun elements the first game had but it sure is an improved version of Humbug. Adding new features, minigames, and funny write-ups that the first installment didn’t had!

I'm not sure if it's just me or I'm just too prepared to see what this game had in store. I think the game is easier than first one... or maybe they made a better game design! Now, It’s  following rules by the book. I’ll let you  decide, but in my opinion, Humbugger did not posses the same spirit as the first installment had.

But it's still funny as heck!

Graphics: 2/5

Let's face it, graphics is not one of the game's main strength here. Lack of proper direction and element  importance on UI design is evidently seen all through out. Although, it's not that hard to figure out and navigate your way through.

Graffiti or button? Brick or button?

Sprites and assets are given the good old pixel art treatment, a dash of creepy, and limited but effective animation. The style may not be the best but the game presents its own charm in that matter.
Audio: 4/5
A very fitting composition was made for Humbug; a little bit creepy, has that sneaky feel but not too distracting. A round of applause to Pryzho. Humbugger on the other hand features a much simpler, tame, and laid back feel by a different composer; Joe Griffiti.

To be honest, I like Humbug's music theme more than Humbugger but then again, the two games feature two different characters.
Fun Factor: 2/5
More like frustration factor! Some parts can either be called faulty or just plain evil but that won’t stop me from playing. I'll just give it a, “I was almost there you M!(*@$ FFFFFF)*#$” and then try again another time. Not everyone would agree with me on this one. Some parts are frustratingly difficult.

This challenge looks very familiar.

Replayability: 2/5

They deviced a secret item/collectibles hoping they could make you play the game again because you missed an easter egg at some point of the game. Maybe make you visit one or two websites to get a walkthrough.

The secret 'secret items' menu!

There's nothing much to say about feel of the game when you revisit the levels where you missed the easter eggs. It's still the same level, except you've seen all the funny stuffs. Then the ending changes. It's a weak attempt at replayability but good effort nonetheless.

Overall: 2.5/5

If you look at the game based on my ratings it's not at all a great game. However, Humbug and Humbugger won a place in my heart for being different. A new concept contributed to my beloved genre of adventure/puzzle platformer. I do hope you guys find the time to try and maybe share the laughs and frustrations I had while playing it.

I hear Humbugger was just Humbug 1.5, and humbug 2 is yet to come!
